Default Heated O2 Sensor Trouble!!!

I got a code #13 and I know that it has to do with the O2 sensor. I'm just wondering how I can tell weather there is a bad connection or if the sensor needs to be replaced. Madvet has an O2 sensor test tool but unfortunately it doesn't work with the heated sensor.

Here's another question for ya. I removed the egr, replaced the shorty headers with some long tube hookers and true dual exhaust with magnaflow cats and mufflers. Now when the car is at idle you can really smell the gas fumes. I thought that maybe it was because I removed and capped off the egr. Any ideas?

Why not? It would only have to read the 1 signal wire wouldn't it? You need to get a scanner on the vehicle to check the millivolt readings in closed loop.

Could be related to a faulty O2?

What does it mean to be in closed loop or open loop? What should the milivoltage be at closed loop?

Unless the sensor is brand new I would just replace it. They aren't expesive enough to worry about just get a new one. I usually get new ones about every 20K

After your car warms up it goes into closed loop. This means the ECM uses the O2 sensor for fuel adjustments. In Open loop the O2 sensor is not used and the ECM uses preprogrammed values for fueling.

At idle the O2 millivolts loop rotate from 999mv to 0mv over and over and over again. If you see it pretty much static then something is not right.
