heres my opinion. And this is after experiencing if first hand and watching it happen to all my friends. Nobody wants to drop large cash on a single mod. So they buy headers, and an intake, and small things etc etc... as the budget allow. Sure they will gain you power but the engine is an AIR PUMP. the biggest restrictions in a stock motor are the cam and heads. Spending money once on getting heads ported and a cam change will make a dramatic impact on performance. The stock cams in these cars are imho pathetic as theyre designed for fuel economy and smooth idles... etc etc

QUOTE----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are going to add hp, ie cam, headers etc, You really need to change the diff. from the 36 series to a 44. Drag racing with hp and sticky tires will break the 36. Now IMO the best place to start is going to be a dana 44 with gears. Next is a converter, then if you want, 1.6 roller rockers, hotcam, heads reworked, headers, in that order, and exhaust is debateable if it helps or not. The LT1 exhaust is a pretty good system to begin with.

Sooner or later....the more mods you do the sooner you'll need a D44
from my first hand experience.....I put 3.54s in my D36 first...then power effects cat back....had traction problems....went to add 2600 tc found out 3.54s was frying the tranny...needed rebuilt tranny....rebuilt tranny and add shift kit and tranny cooler....after two launches on the D36 with 2600 TC..A blewn rearend!! had to put back my stock 3.07 gears back in had no more money left for D44.....my car still does decent 1/4mile times with stock 3.07s mid to low 13s...and I have spent well over 4000k..for a 13 sec vette....SO a D44 and Drag radials first... will get you closer (if not there) to a 12 sec vette( safely ) than any other route....Peace!
