I'm in the planning stages of modding my 95 A4 coupe which is completely stock except for K&N. I'm want to have a very streetable low 12 sec. N/A car but its a daily driver so i don't want to get to radical. Any ideas on where to start?
Re: 95 LT1 mods... where do i begin? (VictorRussell'92)
Depends, money is always an issue, your looking at $1k for Corsas Shipped and Installed and like what 750-900 for Ceramic coated LT headers installed..So your looking at about 2k for Exhausts + headers installed with shipping and taxes....with what 15-20hp gain?
I would save up and get your heads ported with amatching cam......Or Do it the easy way....150 shot

First of all if money is an issue you better be doing all of your own mods. Exhaust is a great place to begin and start doing things yourself. No it is not as good as a 150 shot but it is all about learning you car so you can do more yourself.

----------------------------------------------------------------------please excuse this you're not going to get a low 12 sec. with out radically modding a
95 A4 vette..........it will take headwork....port ....cams....work...exhaust...reprogramin g.....D44 rear....gears .....TC.....so maybe reconsider your goal and settle for getting into the 12s....now that might not take being radical ....that's my .02...
Now the first mod you should do out of the box is a complete DANA 44 with 3.45s or 3.54s or 3.73s conversion and drag radials.....you'll run consistant mid to low 13s....next or at the same time you do the rear conversion a 2800 stall torque converter and tranny cooler....now you're talking low 13s...next exhaust mufflers.....don't really need full cat back unless you like the sound..... the stock exhaust system on the 95 lt1 are all ready 3'' pipes...that should get you in the 12s in good weather......do long tube headers and no cats next....and keep her tune and you will have a 12 sec streetable car. peace

You still talking alot of money, the dana 44 conversion is what $1800 prolly more, the 2800 converter $400-500...Drag Radials mounted what around $500? Mufflers around $300-400 , long tube headers...like $500...and this is just parts...include shipping, labor and tax, thats like 3700 on parts, if you were to do all that, you mine as well save up and do the motor work over the winter.....Your looking at over 5000 dollars for all those mods..and if you don't get them all at once, your looking at ALOT of downtime...course if you can do it all over the course of winter then its no biggie..

in the 12s is exspenive............low 12s....is another car ....can you say Z06 that's 55,000k that's radical......remember he wants low...12s ain't
exspensive it's radical!!!!!!!!!!!
You should be able to get mid-high 13's stock, I would say practice until you get into the 13's because you can stock. Then work on mods.
I also agree w/Mojo my exhaust got a 1 mph but no improvement in ET but I spin much more out of the hole with the exhaust so time for drag radials or slicks.
If you just want to get used to working on your car and being under the hood do the free/near free mods: k&n/cutlid or buy a cold air breathless setup, TB bypass, airfoil, muff elims, make sure the stuff that is there is clean-take off your throttle body and see how much gunk is in there, get caught up on maintanance (change oil/tranny fluid/filters/hoses/belts). This will keep you plenty busy and you can be working on your car while saving up for bigger mods (gears/TC/heads/cam/etc..)

This basic question is asked a lot but I still always enjoying reading the replies. Stay away from the nitrous unless you install forged pistons and some other stout bottom end parts first.
Thanks for the info guys. I will be doing most if not all the mods myself so labor is really no issue here. So far I'm thinking LT4 hotcam w/ 1.6rr, hooker 2151's, 2800 stall, ported heads and intake and maybe gears. Does this sound like a good start? I don't want to use N2O as i had that on my last vette and i want something different. What hp gains would these mods yield? Assuming the ideal conditions would this be enough to get deep into the 12's?

Re: 95 LT1 mods... where do i begin? (JJ 86)
Is there anyone running the hotcam with the stock stall converter? is it even possible or will there be drivablity issues?
No problem at all. The hotcam is very well mannered and streetable. It is designed to be so. I am running it with stock convertor for now and with 3.07 rear.
Re: 95 LT1 mods... where do i begin? (Corvette Kid NC)
If you are going to add hp, ie cam, headers etc, You really need to change the diff. from the 36 series to a 44. Drag racing with hp and sticky tires will break the 36. Now IMO the best place to start is going to be a dana 44 with gears. Next is a converter, then if you want, 1.6 roller rockers, hotcam, heads reworked, headers, in that order, and exhaust is debateable if it helps or not. The LT1 exhaust is a pretty good system to begin with.
