My 1990 Corvette's A/C is in need of repair. All of the R12 leaked out, I even checked the low and high sides with my gauges and it was so low that I could not get a reading. I plan to retrofit the system with R134A. When converting the system I am going to replace all the o-rings because I suspect that there was an o-ring failure in the line coming from the condenser. After replacing the o-rings, I am going to replace the accumulator and orifice. My concerns are that I am not 100% sure how to hook up and use the vacuum (Instructions are not very clear.) and I was wondering if any members had ever used a tool like this and could give some advice. Also there are many different retrofit kits out and I have seen some that are recommended for high mileage vehicles. High mileage being over 50,000 and my Corvette has 53,000 has anybody used or know of any advantages of this high mileage retrofit kit compared to the other kits out. Any other information on retrofitting would be greatly appreciated.

Search for Compressor in the archives (it works better than A/C for a search term) and you'll find quite a few useful posts. SunCr wrote up some instructions on hooking the vacuum pump to evacuate the system.
