Lets start off... I was naive and asked the wrong questions. I asked TPIS if I will pass the smog test in NY with the miniram.. They said yes. I did not ask about the visual test... stupid I know..
I just purchased a miniram from the forum.. transaction went excellent and I was very happy.
What can I do to pass the visual. I noticed someone posted on a previous post regarding this issue a remote EGR.. is this possible?
where is the EGR on an LTI.
Maybe I can set up a dummy.. Maybe I will get lucky and nobody will look.
I have the headers with all the hookups
what do the miniram people out there do in this situation.
I guess I am stuck hoping for luck and if not swapping my long tube set up on and off the car with the miniram once a year.
this whole thing started with heads that were felpro ported to a 1206.. and limited intakes available that would match it.
I guess what I will do is somehow get the accel superram lower manifold to match up with the heads just for emissions testing. Could I just trim the intake gaskets enouph to seal. Just enouph for emissions testing
If all you are worrying about is visual, why not take off yoru miniram and weld a fake EGR to it in a way as it would 'look' legit. As long as it is there and connected to the header and your car passes, they should let you pass.
I am thinking that. thanks for replying I really want to know what the people with minirams are doing to get past the visual in NY I see people with them. I have the connections on the headers so I may do exactly what you are saying.. I was also thinking about adapting fuel rail covers from an LT1 to cover up the area. If the emission trees are on the headers I am hopping no one will look too much.
I can't believe I let this slip. This project is becoming a nightmare. If you read posts here often I am starting to post a lot and starting to let the professionals handle more and more.
I was looking for a superram but couldn't find on 1206 ported.. and I have to admit I like the idea of the miniram more. WIth the 406 and the 3.54 gearing I didn't think I would get many revs out of the superram and I was looking for more revs.... My original long tubes just ran out of gass at 5 rpms and I didn='t like that.
I rigged up a connection to the egr tube on the headers and ran a hose under the runners toward the back of the intake. This made it look like it was functional. I also found a shop that was a little slack
from what ive been told the cam is the limiting factor with emissions. you need a good cat, and a mild to med cam. i dont think you will fail because you dont have egr or air pump.
