On my 86 the left headlight continues to try to close after it is in the off
position. I had to disconnect it for it to stop trying to close. Any ideas? Could
it be a wore gear?
I had the same problem on both lights on my 85 (I am almost possible its still the same design). My problem turned out not to be the gears (cause I replaced them myself) but the elctrical connection inside the motor itself, it had to be rebuilt (found someone on long island to do it for $150). After the rebuild they wor like they are brand new, real strong w/no side effects. The gears are cheap if you wanna go that way first like I did, then that can determine if the electrical parts need to be rebuilt.
I had one to keep running like that for a few seconds after closing and it turned out to be my bushings had turned into powder.
Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. You'll need six of these nylon spacers to repair both headlights. They are like .69 cents for a package of three.
Then, go to C-4 Tech Tips section and print out the articles on headlight motor repair.
