Default CAT replacement on L98?

I've done only minor mods on my L98 (openlid, descreened MAF, Flowmaster cat-back). Will I see any advantage insatlling a random-tech CAT? Also, if I go that route, would I see any more gains by running a front Y pipe without pre-cats? I need to determine if more exhaust work would provide a horsepower advantage on a pretty much stock engine. My issue is that if I won't see any difference I'd rather not waste time and/or money starting this project. This goes especially for the replacement of the front Y-pipe - that doesn't look like a fun job!

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

On a mostly stock engine, the gains will not be worth the money in my opinion unless your cats are partially clogged now.

You will definately gain some power by losing the precats and upgrading the main cat. However I think your best increase would be from a set of LT headers installed at the same time. Though not cheap, it should be money well spent as it will support further mods in the future.
