Default DataMaster question

When checking for air/fuel ratio, do I look under the Target AFR cell or look at the O2 voltage?

I am getting O2 voltage around 875-900 range but the Target AFR goes to a fat 9.6 - 11.5 range.

Which is the better indicator of air/fuel ratio?

Hmm. . . my Datamaster doesn't show a Target AFR I don't believe but it does show 02 mV. I don't think you can go by the target numbers, 02 millivolts are the only way to know what afr you are really seeing. That range is basically where you want to be as far as an optimum WOT reading (I hope that's the only place you are seeing those numbers, otherwise you are waaaaaay fat!)

BUT, it's also my understanding that normal 02 sensors really aren't all that accurate at those mV levels but that range is what you should shoot for nonetheless based on what I have read.

Target O2 would only be what the ecm thinks the AFR is; not the actual AFR. You need a Wideband O2 to see the real AFR.

I just finished spending a week tuning my 96 vette powered el camino. A friend has a dyno, so I know all the numbers are correct. it has a 95 ecm and harness from street and performance. we were able to raise the rear wheel hp from 244 to 257 with just a tune up. the a/f ratio is a flat line at 13/1 from 2500 rpm to 5500 rpm. the only way to really tune is on a dyno. also, was able to get an additional 3 hp by removing the wafer screen from the mass air flow sensor.
the only thing datamaster was good for was monitoring the runs. we did have some timing issues, and datamaster was helpful in finding out where the ecm was pulling out some of the advance.
the car runs great and has a nice smooth power curve.
if anyone is interested in trying the file, i will be glad to share it. the original file is from an 95 f-body with automatic.

Did you remove both screens, or just one?

I only have 1 screen in my mass air flow sensor. It is held in with an internal snap ring. remove the snap ring and carefully push the wafer/screen out from the engine side. Be careful not to touch the fine wires in the sensor.
