Default QTP ELECTRIC CUTOUTS

Today I drove down to Trenton and met with Barry from Quick Time Performance who makes an electric cutout. Check it out: http://www.fasttoys.net/8498ybodyexhaust.html

I also met with Anthony from Mufflex in Trenton, http://www.mufflex-performance.com/home.html who is going to install it on my 86.

I'm planning to have them install a single cutout, positioned just beyond the cat. This way I can be either totally legal or totally illegal at the flip of a switch. I've been looking for a way to get some sound out of the car, been fooling with the idea of side-pipes, but have resigned myself to the fact that I just can't veer that far from stock. I think this may be a happy medium.

I'm wondering if anyone else out has this or something like this running on their C4, and if so, how they like it. I'm also wondering if anyone has some ideas for wiring the switch, because I'd like to avoid drilling sloppy or unnecessary holes. I'd like to have the switch somewhere within reach is possible. Since the cutout will sit just between the underpart of the rear compartments I was thinking I could wire into on of them, or possibly even the glove compartment, but I'm not sure what I can spice the wire on to. Even though it would be a bit of a stretch to reach the switch while driving, there's a hole mess of wires underneath the driver's side rear compartment that might work, but I'm not sure which one to use. I contemplated running it off a 12 volt battery but apparently there's a light on the switch which runs all the time and it would drain the battery. It would be great to be able to snake the wire into the glove box and mount the switch in there. Any ideas?

Thanks for reading.

Do a search or IM TJwong. He posted pics of one of the cars he did this mod to. You can find him in the Forced Induction section usually.

Default Cut Out is Awesome

Installed a single 3" QTP Electric Cutout just behind the cat. Bought a replacement tray and rigged up a neat control panel in the passenger-side rear compartment. Didn't have to cut a single hole into the car. Ran the wire through a pre-existing grommet on underside of the comparment and have it powered by a small 12 volt battery attached to the underside of the tray. Also wired an on/off switch because the QTP switch has a light that would drain the battery otherwise. Looks clean and discrete. This is the first and most likely the only mod my car will ever have and I couldn't be any happier with the result. The sound is fantastic, not obnoxious. Had it done at Mufflex in Trenton NJ. Labor was $68.00. The cutout was around $180.00. Inexpensive, clean, and satisfying mod.

I put one of those on my Grand Prix GT for awhile just for fun. THe valve never seems to close all the way and sounds like you have an exhaust leak. The motor that controls the valve likes to die too. I replaced it the first time but pulled the entire thing off and put it back to stock the second time.
