Well, after 6 months of driving around with no 2nd gear, I'm finally pulling my 4+3 tomorrow morning to rebuild the 4-speed. What I'm looking for is tips/pointers. I know I need to remove the exhaust, yank the plenum extension and remove the distributor cap, disconnect the shift rods, disconnect the OD cooler lines and all wiring, loosen the slave cylinder, disconnect the AIR tube at the cat, yank the c-beam (I have beam reinforcement plates ready to go back on), etc.
What I'm looking for it other stuff to "watch out" for. One big help would be how high does the car have to be from the ground to the lowest spot of the vehicle in order to slide the 4+3 out. I don't want to get the tranny out of the bellhousing only to find out I need to jack the car up more to get it out from underneath the car. Also, do I need to remove the whole exhaust or can I just remove the precats/Y-pipe and the main cat and leave the rear y-pipe and the mufflers?
Any pointers would be really appreciated. The less "surprises" I run into, the better!
