Well now it's only a matter of time before I can get them installed. I would just slap them on today but I've got to check the pushrod length and I don't have what I need to do that.

382hp / 356 torque right now. Any new guesses?

Nathan, by my calcs, this gives you .630 lift.....am I close? Do you remember what your P/V clearance was when you first put it together or have you clayed it? If these monsters clear (especially at high RPMs ), I'm thinking somewhere around 3, maybe 5% tops across the board........

.590 lift, which is safe. I'm running 1.7's now. The hot cam is rated .525 with 1.6 rockers, which equals .328 cam lift. * 1.8 = .590

OK, there's my mistake........ I took the .525 off your site as 1.5 numbers.

I'm thinking of going up from 1.6s........what was the SOTP (or dyno results if you have them) on the 1.7s? It would seem to me that this upgrade makes a lot of sense if you have the clearance and your exhaust can handle it I really think this is an oft overlooked area for the rest of us!

The gain from the 1.7's over the 1.6's was 14 hp and 11 pounds of torque. No loss of low end, driveability, etc.

I'm going to pull a rocker off and just check the geometry. There is a posibility, although a very small one, that they will work with my existing pushrods.

Well the geometry is a little off but it's not any more off really than my 1.7's were. I suspect that the geometry is off more because the heads have been milled, the valve seats have been machined, different head gasket, etc, etc.

So I need a shorter pushrod, but I put the rockers on anyway. Just got back from my first test drive and I seem pretty happy. Now I just have to head to the dyno

I MIGHT be able to arrange that tomorrow.

My springs are very good, but I don't think they're THAT good. .656 lift would probably be beyond the safe limit given my install height. Now if I loosened them up some on the seat pressure I could run that lift, but then I'm giving up RPM potential.

I'm very interested in the results, I have been thinking of going to 1.7's on my cam which would give me .575/.598 lift. Keep us posted!

are there any problems with using the 1.7 ratio over the 1.6? Like reliability issues or problems at higher revs? Just asking. I am going to buy new rockers for my setup, I was going to buy 1.6 but know I am thinking of 1.7.
There would no interference problems with my springs or pistions with my setup.

Reliability wise, no. The Scorpion rockers that I had were pretty loud as far as roller rockers went, but they performed flawlessly for over a year on my daily driver. When I took them off today, they showed no wear at all.

RPM ability should depend soley on your springs. I turned 6500 RPM's with no problem on the 1.6's and left it the same with the 1.7's. I made lots of drag strip passes, dyno pulls, and had fun on the street and never had any failures.

As for the 1.8's I should be OK. Comp cams claims they are lighter than aluminum rockers. As I'm typing this it dawned on me that I was too stupid to actually weigh them and find out In any case I just took it for it's shakedown cruise and nothing blew up. I made it a point to keep the revs up pretty good as I went through the twisties of my "test road."

My springs are good for it. What part numbers are the 1.7? Are they the ones listed for BB chevys?

No they are not the big block rockers, I'm sure they have a different geometry altogether. Part number depends completely on brand. I don't remember the part number on my Scoripion rockers, and the number is not stamped on them anywhere. Comp cams sells 1.7's, their part number is 1117-16. They seem to think very highly of them. I would talk to Brent at TEA if you want any of these parts, he can get them for you at a better price than Summit.

DO you know the flow numbers on your heads?
Yes......

Lift __________Intake___________Exhaust
.100 __________ 66.6 ___________ 52.4
.200 __________ 140.4 ___________ 107.3
.300 __________ 195.1 ___________ 156.4
.400 __________ 241.6 ___________ 190.7
.500 __________ 264.6 ___________ 214.9
.550 __________ 269.2 ___________ 224.1
.600 __________ 266.9 ____________ 232.1
