Need the pro's advice, since the lifters and valve seals were done, I still have a knocking problem when stepping on the pedal, check engine comes on, mechanic that did the work has 2 different stories 1. The ESC is bad, 2. Advance timing to 8 and it goes away, HMMMM. Since I think they jacked me on the price and I spent my own time correcting their vacuum line mistakes I'm skeptical to say the least!
P.S. What the going price in Florida for a lifter job with valve seals, when I supply the lifters? :flag :flag
Advance timing to 8 degrees...... what is it set at now? and was it set with the brown wire disconnected so the ECM doesn't adjust timing. If it's pinging, then timing is advanced too far.
If it's knocking, and you said the timing is advanced too far, how will advancing it even more help?
I'm interested here, cuz mine is at 6 degrees and it knocks on WOT, so if I move it to 8 isn't that the same as adding more timing, and won't it knock even more?

Couple of questions: What "goes away"? The knock or the check engine light, not that either makes immediate sense. And, what is the malfunction code that gets set when the check engine light comes on? I wouldn't immediately put out any money replacing ESC components until you know the malf code. Just as a bit of advice, be careful how many times you might happen to disconnect the knock sensor. The connector there is very fragile electrically, and it's easy to end up with an open circuit (resulting in a deaf system) if the connection is unplugged more that a couple times.
Keep us updated.
