Default Help with A/C Problem

I had a leak in the evaportator core, so I changed it out Friday night. My neighbor put freon in the system for me since he is certified. The problem I had was that it started to get cool and all of a sudden it would get hotter and hotter. Does anyone have any type of solution as to why it is doing this? I did change the little clip at the air box lid under the dash last month it is was broken. All and any ideas would be welcome

Are you talking about the clip on the door itself? There is another clip on the other end of the rod that connects the blender door to the motor.

Here's a way to check. On top of the evaporator housing there is a harness that connects to a controller. Remove the 3 7mm screws that hold it on and shine a flashlight inside there. Have someone change the controls from 60-90 and watch the doors movement. If it's not moving then you have to replace the clip on the rod to the blender door.

If that clip is broken, the blender door will be allowed to swing freely and therefore causing it to go cold, then hot. My 88 did the same thing. Would be cold, then luke warm, then blazing heat. I got some instructions on here. The motor you're looking for is under the passenger side hush panel. It's next to the ECM. To get at it, you'll need to remove the passenger seat (makes it easier to lay down), the hush panel, drop down the ECM, and the motor should be accessible then. 2 7mm screws on each side of the motor. Once you get it out, there should be an arm with a little white plastic clip attached to the top of it. If that clip is not there, then you need to get one. It was like $4 for one at the GM dealership. If the clip is still attached to the rod, plug in the harness and change the temp controls from 60-90 and see if the motor arm moves. If not, you'll need the motor.

Let me know how it goes.

88VetteLover,
I changed the clip at the motor end the rod had slipped out of the nylon clip. I will check and see if the door is still opening and closing, I changed the clip about a month ago, the A/c had lost freon then also, but all air was hot, hot and hot. Thanks for the reply and I'll check the door on the air box.
