Default Battery Relocation

I am getting ready to relocate the battery to the rear
compartment and have a couple of questions.
1) What is the best type of battery cable to use?
2) I assume I can leave the positive cables connected
at the stock location, and just run the new positive cable from
the new battery to the starter. (Then ground the new
battery to the frame)

I want to keep the original cables in the stock location,
so I can go back to the original setup easily.

Thanks,

Russ

You will be much better off if you run both cables to the engine. Use at least 2 ga. or larger cables and use battery cable, not welding cable.

The only standard size battery I could fit into the R/H rear compartment was an Optima Red. I fabricated a custom mount with risers. On the cable issue I ran (2) new cables from the new battery location to the old battery tray area. I then cut & spliced the factory cables to the new cables at the old battery tray location (soldered). My cables are routed out of the compartment above the driveline mount beam (Adel clamped) over to the driver side rocker panel area. They run underneath the rocker panel and directly to the old battery tray (splice) area. I ran (2) cables as grounds are everything in a 12 volt DC system and I just didn't want to mess with poor grounds / connection in the main power feed. You could get away with using one cable for positive and short straps to the frame for the negative side, need good connections though.

I don't know if you drag race or not...if you do, remember when you relocate the battery you must have a kill switch mounted on the outside rear of the car...

Thanks for all the good info!

Superlund....nice battery tray! It puts my modified NAPA
tray and 2X4 to shame.
