A couple weeks ago, as I was narrowing down a totally different problem, I found some suspect wiring insulation going to the OD relay.
When I took it apart, there must have been 3 wires all wrapped around themselves...with like two inches of no insulation - just bare wire. "This cannot be good", I says to myself and proceeded to cut, splice and tape. My OD now works quite flawlessly. In fact, I am amzed that it worked at all with that wiring mess. Its worth a look if you are having unexplained OD symptoms.

the wire sheathing will peel back and cause bad electrical issues. Congrats!
Yep, same thing happened to my fuel relay wiring, mines an auto, but I'm going to be looking at all wires going to relays.I didn't have to cut though, just removed the pins from the relay and used shrink tape for insulation-I got some good stuff from a buddy of mine from Boeing.
You yank them out, and you will bend/break the locking tab that keeps them in place. i.e. Suggest you not do that. I use a large paper clip to push the locking tab out of the way, before I pull the contact out.
I'm a new member to the forum. So please excuse me for asking a dumb question. But where would I locate the overdrive relay in a 85. My car seems to be doing the same thing. The overdrive sometimes will not engauge.
