Default sb2.2 in a C4

Has anyone thought about putting a sb2.2 in a c4 corvette? i dont know much about the engine.. all i know is that it makes alot of hp and is used in NASCAR in stock cars... i ask these ?s because i am considering a new setup in my 84 vette.. how much would a sb2.2 cost to build too? here is a site that built one for a camaro http://www.bmrfabrication.com/Buildup1.htm (twin turbo sb2 1200-1300hp :flag )

There is a place somewhere that sells entire lightly used NASCAR components (even whole engines)... I'm sure someone here can help you on the name. I think they had for example a complete set of like new SB2 heads with manifold for $3,000 or so...

Nick Gaglione had one in his NMCA Super Street c3 in the late 90s, early 00s. Car was wicked. 8.20s or so I beleive.

I do some cryo work for one of the large Cup teams and got a bargain on a set of SB2.2 heads, and T&D shaft systems. I'm not using an SB2 block though, I'm using a tall-deck Dart block with a custom SB2 cam and custom roller lifters.

I'm using a Pro Built TH400 with a t-brake and a Edge 8.5" 5500 stall converter. As for a rear, I'll be using the same Dana 44 that came with my car when new. It's been very well built, cryo-treated, and has a spool. On the bottle I expect to see mid 8's.

When Lingenfelter built that 95 Corvette 427" small block for Car & Driver a few years back, they used a SBC 2.2 block...

It put out 600hp... wow. I have pics of it somewhere. Porter Chevy in Wilmington, DE sold it about 3 years ago for about $50k. They had that much in the motor!!

I thought the car was listed in C&D for over $100k.

Here it is: eBay

that sale was 3 years ago, as I noted. I do not know what happened to it since, or, who bought it then.

It is one serious car, tho... and it caused a bit of friction at C&D... not so much between C&D and LPE, as from the bean counters and such... not pretty.

Essentially, the car vanished after the build up.

The current owner is trying to profit from John's death. sad, but it happens...

my bigger question would be this: can it pass even the most basic of emissions tests?

Hahaha, if I was a smog tech, and seen THAT under the hood of your C4, I'd just slowly close the hood, and say "You pass, ALL the time." AS LONG AS, you do one MEEEAAAANN burnout in the parking lot. hahahahahah

ok... 2 questions:

1) do you plan on driving this monster on the street? If so, that combo would be a real bitch.

2) Do you plan on trying to make this emissions legal? those heads, however hot to trot, are not going to be very friendly... you will have to carefully select the cam.

An observation... one of the cylinders was sleaved. That is concerning. It means that the block could be damaged, and it was repaired. I am only questioning the quality of said repair, not that is a problem that it was done.

That block is setup for a dry sump. This means there is no oil pan to speak of. The oil is stored in a separate tank and the motor drives an external belt driven oil pump. Where would the oil tank go? You would have to move the battery to the rear.

It would be a neato project, but I suspect the effort might be a bit much...
