[FONT=Arial]Hello all. I am having trouble with getting my C4 to start. It is not getting any electrical current to the starter solenoid. I've checked all fuses and they are fine. I have run a test connection from the battery to the solenoid wire and the car starts. I've traced the purple solenoid wire to underneath the dash and can draw a current from there to the connector underneath the hood to the solenoid. The wire gets somewhat lost from the drivers side of the dash to the glove box area. I have found what I believe to be it underneath the glove box but I cannot get any test current to flow there. Any ideas? Is there a relay somewhere that may be the problem?

VATS maybe? Went through this problem a few weeks ago on my 91. Ended up the tumbler. Try a spare key. I would also check the search on VATS for tech tips on this from members far more astute than I.
Good Luck

What year is your car? If it is an 86 or newer, the VATS system is automatically suspect. You said that with a test connection between the battery and the solenoid, the car starts, did you mean it starts up or it cranks over? I ask because the VATS will disable your starter and the fuel injectors, so if the car acutally starts, then it is not likely the VATS. In that case, check the neutral safety switch or the clutch switch and see if there is power there. The next thing up stream from there is the starter enable relay and from there it is the switch.
Read my advice to a post made minutes ago, "VATS driving me nuts".
Add to that, to test the clutch safety switch (gear selector sw if automatic) by jumping it and trying a crank.

The car is a 91. It actually starts when I run the test connection from the starter to the solenoid. Where is the neutral safety switch and starter enable relay located? When you say switch, do you mean the ignition lock cyl?
