Please help-code 42

Thanks in advance for any help. I was throwing intermitantly code 32. So I replaced the EGR switch. What a B*$#ch on an 87. Well, I ended up splicing the two wires together. I had to pull the distributor to get to it. I thought I marked everything so as to go back together right i.e. spark plug wires etc. I could tell at first I was a tooth off, so I played with it-advance, retard a tooth. Well it starts fine-but throws a code 42-electronic spark timing circuit. What did I do wrong? any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys-your the best!

Check to see if your EST wire is hooked up.
Disconnect battery and see if it clears code

Check your base timming. Mine will throw a code if the timing is off. I have it right on the edge now before she will throw.
