Default explicit 90 dash pad removal instructions please!

does anyone have any explicit instructions on how to remove the 90 dash pad? there seems to be a zillion screws and it's difficult to see what all comes off with the top of the dash. normally i'd tear right into it if it were my pontiac, but i'd rather not mess up the interior of my vette.

those dash pads are expensive!

if no one has any detailed instructions, maybe you could at least answer some of the following questions:

1. how do you remove the top center piece where the light sensor is housed?

2. does the glovebox need to come out? and if so, how?

3. does the lower trim with carpeting below the glovebox attach to the dash pad so that it must be removed as one unit?

4. are there any hidden screws that i should know about? its quite easy to remove the vents, but i'm sure there are others?

Thanks!!

Step-by-step in the maintenance manual. I have a '96 which is different from your '91, but the manual goes into great detail. Invest in one: you won't be sorry.

I know working on the dash for the fist time can be pretty intimidating. The first time I took it apart I just started removing screws until everything came apart.
Once apart you can see how it’s designed. The next time you go to remove it you’ll know exactly what need to be removed and what doesn’t.

Start with the console lid and work your way forward. The shifter plate, radio bezel, glove box door, and all the A/C vents will need to be removed.
The front o the dash has small fingers that extend into the body, so once all the screws are removed you can just sit in the driver seat and pull the dash towards you.
That’s it in a nutshell.

IBEAM700:you mean that center part where the light sensor is housed does not need to come off before you remove the rest of the dash?

i have no problem removing the console, vents, and glovebox door to remove the dash. just please let me know when, or if, that center piece needs to come off first. thanks!

Yep, the little center piece on the top of the dash will need to be removed. Under it you'll find two screws that need to be removed.

The plastic piece on top of the dash is just a friction fit. Use a small flat tip screewdriver to pry up on it.
