Very pleased! Of course I am comparing them to old rock hard bald Nittos. Had an alignment done last year but small ruts still tossed me all over the place. With the new 255/50ZR16 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712’s its like riding on a new suspension, the ruts are now nothing to the car and the ride is smooth and quiet. Have not had them on the twisties yet but on my normal freeway off ramp I can tell they stick much better. A happy camper now!

don't mind mine, they are good in the rain, but could be better for the twisty's.

I have them on my car too. About 3000 miles now. They seem to be wearing well but it's to early to tell. I only drive my car 6000 miles per year so I wont know for another year what the treadwear is like.
Great in the rain, likely not as good as some of the more expensive tires in the twisties but for the price they can't be beat.

They are $91 each plus shipping on the Tire Rack. With that said, I did not want to break my streak of never paying the cheapest! I bought them locally at $600 out the door including mounting, Hunter 9XXX balancing and alignment. This way if I have problems I have someone local to deal with, plus there will be no charge if I need the wheels balanced in the future.

Good choice, especially in the rain. I've put about 30,000 miles on mine, and they still hold great. At the track, I've had many 60 foot times under 1.95, and one under 1.90. IMHO they're a great buy for the price.

I am getting ready to buy a set but was curious about the quality. I think I will end up ordering a set from TireRack.com next month. A little over $400 shipped to my door. $44 for mounting and lifetime balance at Wal-Mart.

The 712s are great bang for the buck. I put 255/45/17s on my '85, and used em up pretty good. They had excellent traction to begin with, which dropped to pretty good traction as they wore. My only complaint really, is that it's hard to pinpoint traction loss by ear. They howl on hard cornering enough to be mistaken for losing traction. But last week I got a nail in the sidewall so I'm looking to upgrade...

I'm considering 275/40s in Yokohama ES100s or Kumho Ecsta MX... but I'm concerned about treadwear with MX's.

I was on pace to get maybe 18,000 miles out of my Ecsta 712s... that included maybe 10% lunatic canyon driving, 30 or so 1/4 mile runs, about 10 smokey burnouts. and the rest freeway. I've had em up to 148 mph, braked 60-0 in 127 feet, and were stable at all times. Even during 4 wheel drifts and blantant loss of traction, the car was very manageable. Hell, when I blew a tire out at 70 mph, everything was still stable. Even though the outer sidewall was completely gone, both beads of the Kumho stayed on my wheel, protecting it while I came to a stop. Not too shabby in my book.

I've gone through 3 sets of the 712's now. Seems to be that I get 14-15,000 miles out of them (with occasional rotating) before I give up and buy more. I've had Two develop broken belts (both on the left rear - coincidence?). They work beautifully when new, as the tread wears they loose some of the grip, and also will become more prone to follow the ruts. They do get noisy too! I've found that while they do work real good in the rain (better than either the Goodyears or Yokohama's I've also used up) they are simply useless in snow - no forward traction whatsoever. I've finally taken to mounting up actual snow tires for the season - at least it means that the Kumho's will last me Two summers now! BTW - you'll find that the Kumho's are very sensitive to air pressure - particularly how "soft" they ride. 25 psi or so rides nice and smooth, 30 will become more jarring (without really seeming to affect the grip at all...). I've also had the misfortune, or maybe pleasure, of discovering that a completely Flat rear won't even be hardly noticeable - I had a nail in one, and must have been driving it around flat for several days before I finally decided to check out why the differential kept smelling warmer than normal after my 40 mile drive to/from work. Turned out that the right rear pressure was zero. Nothing. It drove fine - on the street I never would have noticed it...including the 20 miles or so of Interstate that the commute involves! It probably didn't do much to help out the posi clutches though!

Yeah...

I almost bought the auto-cross 315/35-17 Kumho's myself from Tire Rack.
But I had a set of Michelin Pilot Sports donated to me. I have heard so many good things about Kumho's on C4's that there has to be something to it. And the price is awesome!

I've heard great things about those tires. In fact I was about to buy them but the store was out of stock, so I went with Cooper Cobra ZHO 01's.. those things are AWESOME too! Esp. Compared to my dry-rotted and half bald GSC's $135/ea installed too 275/45-17

Default My Kumho Tire Story

I bought a set of Kumhos for an 89 Vette from the Tire Rack. They have over half the tread left but I have one that is real bad out of round and another pretty bad. Like the guy said they were fine for a while but now they shake the car like crazy. They also get flat spots when they set up for a while but they usually goes away after a while.
Worse in cold weather. A bad tires on a vette is compounded by the car being so light and small with such large tires.
The sad thing is these replaced a set of B.F. Goodrich that done the same thing before tread life was gone.
If you buy tires from the Tire Rack and have problems with them be sure to do it soon or they will not make them up. That's the down side to ordering tires on the internet as to buying them where you live.
Hope everyones luck is better than mine!

I've got GSC's front and Kuhmos 712s rear. Both 255s.
The GSCs have a little bigger contact patch and seem to have better cornering ability, then again, they aren't in back, and they also cost considerably more than Kuhmos.

I presonally am a big fan of the Kuhmos, though I really think they aren't really up to snuff in auto-x terms.

However JUST SO YOU ALL KNOW:
Supposedly there should be a new cheap (possible cheaper) than Kuhmos 712 that is similar from a different brand I can't find the name right now, but I will post when it comes it. (Could be Avon?)

But keep your eyes peeled, might be soon getting an even better deal!

I just purchased a set for my 86 vette yesterday. I went with 275 35 18 Ecsta ASX.

Hope they turn out to be a good tire for me.
