Default Shift Light install

I ordered a Raptor LED shift light. Where did you get your tach pick up signal? Did you splice into the ECM wire? Is the tach signal off the MSD better?

That is a good looking light...What color of LED did you get? And did you order direct? And where are you mounting it? Sorry for all the questions, This will be my next thing to buy.

89vette,
Good move on the shift light.

Not sure about MSD but I get mine off of distributor.

Cork has MSD and his shift light connect directly to it, tends to be an actual rpm.

Going to T&T on Wednesday if weather is OK??

If you already have an MSD ignition than certainly get your RPM signal from it. It is likely to be a cleaner signal and it'll be easy to hook up without having to splice anything else. It's not worth buying an MSD box over though.

I bought the red LED and I bought it direct from Raptor. $92.00 delivered. I am going to see if I can mount in one of the center AC vents. That way only I see it and if I don't want to see it, I can close the vent!

85vet,

Plans are to go to test and tune this Wednesday. I ordered a set of street drag radials but I don't think I'll have them for this week. I considered the 275/40/17 Mickey Thompson ET drag radials but they say do not drive them on the street. If I keep up the racing thing, I'll buy a set.

i got my tac signal from the dist. I also have a raptor with red leds. I mounted mine with the little clips it comes with next to the center vents by the tac. that way if I need to adjust the rpm, I dont have to remove the dash peices. this is a verry nice light, you will like it.
while on the topic of shift lights, I have a Q. when the shift light first comes on, if I dont shift and I keep reving the engine higher, the light will flicker on and off for a fiew seconds, the flickering gets faster and faster until it becomes a steady light.
my question, is this normal, if so is the correct time to shift at the first flicker or when the light steadys?

Just tap the wire going to the tachometer, that way you don't need to run a wire to the engine bay. Works fine whether you have an MSD or not.
