I am sure this has been asked a lot, but I have been a vette enthusiast for years, and now being 17, I am the proud owner of my grandads 94 automatic corvette with 22k miles. I am trying to clean it up some, and was wondering if there were any simple performance tips or tricks. I know my truck had air silencers that added 5 horse when taken off.

Simple tricks or tips... Hmm.....K&N filters are what most people run - they can be had much cheaper on eBay (I got mine for $24) than in stores (usually $60-80). Some people cut the lid that goes over the filter for a couple extra ponies, but others have done it and say it yeilds no gains. A cheap exhuast mod you can do is to have your resonators taken off (the mufflers behind the exhaust tips) and replaced with straight pipes. Any exhaust shop should be able to do it relatively inexpensively, and you'll get a wake-up in sound, if nothing else! It should be good for a few horse, though...

In terms of "quickies", though, be careful what you do - these are performance vehicles and are going to cost more to modify that a standard Honda Civic. You'll see products like the TB airfoil out there that claim HP gains - STAY AWAY. They've been purchased, track tested, and dyno tested, and they don't do anything.

Best of luck - it sounds like you have yourself a gem of a car!!! See you on the roads, and don't forget to wave!

. cut-back spark plugs is another cheap mod for a few HP. 65Z01 has a pic on his site.

Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place for advice. As for what you should do now......not a thing, yet. Drive it for awhile a see what you have. You may decide it's good to go as is. Did your Granddad have any mods on it?

besides a heavy foot, no. I know a lot about installing parts etc., as i did everything on my truck, but i am a little leary about messing with such a fine machine. thanks so much for the quick responce! I like the pipe idea. That doesn't screw around with emissions or anything, does it? well hell, im in texas, we can get away with just about anyhting.

MrArmyAnt, can I call you Mr?

However, get this through your head - Corvettes are GM products. As such, they are assembled with the same basic sensabilites as your average Impala. They are not hard to work on, they are not complex, they do not require tons of special tools.

If you have basic hand tools and a good mechanical understanding, you can do anything on these cars.

As for hop-ups... cat back exhaust will open it up! Make it sound more like it should! I have Corsa (some call it quiet), Magnaflow is very good, as is Borla and B&B.

If you wish to go inside the motor a little, Roller Rockers are one of the best internal upgrades you can do. Simply stunning. The factory stamped steel pieces are junk - they are prone to flexing and they are inconsistant in manufacture. Your motor then is only as good as the worst one.

Depending on where you live, long tube headers would be a big help, too. But expect added heat and noise.

I also put in a vote for a Corsa Exhaust. You will need to use the search engine a bunch also. Type in Maganaflow in C4 Tech and C4 gen and you will not be disappointed. Exhaust is the most commonly coverd mod on the forum! Welcome!
