Default CAT removal question

If I remove the Cat from my 87 (replace it with a straight pipe) what do I do with the air tupe that runs into it?
Or, if I gut the cat and reinstall it hollow will this effect the same air tube's function.....What does it do?
Thank you
Also, how do I get this damn cat off? I have it undone and I've been under the car forever pulling twisting and banging. The damn thing won't slide off the front Y.

One more question.
Does anyone have any tips on gutting the cat?
Thanks again.

It won't come off willingly
I cut mine off, then I could grind a cut line into the left over piece and remove it.
I got a shop to give me a piece of 3'' pipe and had them expand one end to slide over the inlet pipe.
I then cut off about 4'' of the flanged end of cat. Used the measurements I had taken earlier, and welded the flange end to the straight pipe. Slipped it on front Y and clamped it. Bolted up rear Y and I was done.
I wouldn't worry about the air tube to cat. Tie it out of the way, or completely remove it.
I had a exhaust shop cut out my pre cats and weld in straight pipe.

Cut it off with a die grinder. Cap the AIR tube with something or remove the tube altogether and cap it further up in the engine bay.

I didn't want to cut or grind it in case I needed to use it as a decoy or something later.
I suppose I could get the end fabricated after I cut it like you said agent 86.
Thanks for the tip on capping off the air line.
My car is supposed to have 3 cats but the two front ones seem to be missing. Looks like someone before me started the job that I'm going to finish.
