250 sounds a little too hot for everyday running in traffic. You can combat this problem by simply turning on your A/C - it manually turns on the fans that would normally cool your engine. Check under the nose of your car in front of the radiator to see if there's any road crap (i.e., paper, plastic, leaves, etc.) that my be impeding your cooling.

As for first mods, that's a tough one. The L98 is a great motor - bags 'n bags of torque down low, but a little lacking in the HP dept. The best way to mod any car, IMO, is to come up with a gameplan first. Decide what you want from the car, what you want to do with it (daily driving, drag racing, autocross, shows, etc.), and decide what kind of $$$ you are comfortable spending on the vehicle. With these cars, the sky is really the limit in any of the above categories - it usually all comes down to money. "You gotta pay to play" is the general saying around here...

There are many different ways to mod your car, either for more horsepower/torque, better handling, better looks, better sound system, etc. Decide what you want from the car, and we can better help you!

WELCOME TO THE GROUP!!!!!!!

That hiss that you hear is most likely a leaking brake booster or a leaking vacuum line to the booster. I'd put my money on the booster since you hear it inside. If you do need to replace the booster , get a metal one as the plastic ones are subject to melting if you install headers.
If it is a leaking booster, when it finally fails , you will have brakes but the pedal effort will be awful.

Sounds like the same problem I had recently (plus the brake pedal went 'hard.") Replaced brake booster, poof, problem was solved.

Sounds like a booster leak. Could be the vacum hose from the intake, though - check it out.

Mods - all at once? - bits at a time? - what "kind" of performance do you want? I have done alot of different kinds of mods. Check sig for current status.
