Help me out here Chris, I have a LT1 (92) which crank and rod combo will give me 396?
A 396 engine will have a 3.875" crank and a 4.030" bore. You will want a 6.00" rod. We have 396 Eagle kits for around $1400 fully forged with SRP pistons, but you will need to clearance the block a little too much with the Eagle H-beam. You will want to upgrade to a Lunati Pro Mod Rod. This will run you $399.95 on the upgrade. So for $1799.95 you can have the ultimate forged rotating assembly.
There is a small clearance issue withe the H-beams and the 383. It is nothing that any engine builder has not seen a million times though. Pretty routine stuff.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks,
Chris
Hey Chris, do the 3.875 cranks need much to balance? And do you use a 400" type harmonic-balancer with these cranks?
I have not had any trouble ballancing these using the pro Mod rods and the SRP pistons. Different weights of different components might change that, but you should be just fine.
Use the stock ballancer and internally ballance the setup. This will be the best way to handle this.
Give me a ring and we will take care of you.
Thanks,
Chris
I bought my Eagle H beam and crank from Chris a couple of yrs a go for my 383LT1 motor. Use a small base circle cam you should be no problem with clearancing.
Chris, are the cranks internally balanced also what kind of problems would I run into if I were to use the 6" H-Beams and the 3.875" crank in a 400 block bored .030?

The H-beam rods are pretty thick. I would say, use a small base circle camshaft and you will need to clearance the pan rail. You should not hit watter though, so it is just routine clearancing.
have any 5.85 H beam rods?? clearance issues with these?
I have not used the 5.850" Eagle rods yet. You will have some clearance issues, but you SHOULD be able to get away without hitting water on the block. The rods are $464.95.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Chris
