Default Another 88 Brake Question - Help!

Tonignt while bleeding my brakes, I discovered that on the right side, there is basically no pad on the inside of the rotor. Looking at the Haynes manual, they indicate that on 88 and newer you have to take the parking brake cable loose. To do this involves taking the parking brake cover off and jury rigging something. Is it possible to change pads without this step and how dangerous is it?

I did look in Tech Tips and did a search for 'brakes' (I only mis-spell for the title) and didn't have any luck.

Don't trust your Haynes in this case, you do NOT need to mess with the parking brake to change rear pads.

Just compress the pistons, swap the pads, replace the caliper pins, C-clip, pad retainer clips and anti-rattle pads, lube the caliper pins and you are good to go bed the new pads.
