Default L98 Ignition Timing

Hey guys, just got my 85 back on the road with my new engine. It's running very well and guite strong compared to what I'm used to in this car. My question is this...with a Comp cam, Edelbrock heads, headers, Edelbrock base intake plate, should I run the same base timing as with the stock engine? Or can my computer make the required changes on it's on. The base timing for staock is 6* BTDC. Should I stay there or try 8* or something else? I just want to get all I can without hurting anything? Thanks, Troy

Cam is 206 in. and 210 ex. at .050 in. 112 degrees lobe seperation, roller.
.450 in. intake, .480 in exhaust gross valve lift.
Stock fuel injection system, stock bottom end,(1989 L98), stock compression ratio.

You would benefit from a full reprogramming if anything. Your computer is only going to adjust timing to a certain degree based on the stock setup. It won't deviate from that unless it senses knock and then it will pull timing out. You can try adding some timing if you'd like. Do it at the track and monitor your MPH between runs. As long as you don't get knock then you're ok. This is the very elementary way of doing things without a dyno or ECM scanner.
