i have a 86 vette and i keep getting a code 12. what is code 12 and where is it located?

Code 12 is a delimiter or marker code to show where the error code string begins and ends.

It is an ECM code. It means the ECM is sending codes. If you get 4 (or more) twelves in a row, you have no codes set.

Which means that Code 12 is not an error code; think of it as a system code. You will see Code 12's followed by any true error codes, followed by Code 12's.
