Default 92 brake pad recommendations

I'm getting ready for my first auto-X and want to know what brand and type of brake pads are best. Any recommendations?

i have the PFC carbon metallics from Autozone for my daily driver. they are acceptable in autocrosses, but in hindsight i wish i had gone with the Z-rated pads.

Gee, the company is right here in Clover,SC, so I guess I'll check them out. Is the Z-rated pad a ceramic?

If the course is designed to be fairly slow (say around 60MPH or so at the fastest point) you should be able to use stock pads with no trouble. You can install stock pads and bleed the brakes for your first few events.

Once you get the hang of autocrossing, and you feel comfortable with doing it (and you will love it !!) then you can begin to work on brake and suspension mods. Seat time is the big key to starting out. As you get more runs in, you will get better ideas about what brakes and suspension mods you may want to do.

On my 87, I run EBC Greenstuff pads that I got from the Tire Rack. I had used Hawk HPS pads on my 92 and while they were a great pad for A-X, they dusted pretty bad even on the street. Very good cold initial bite and no squealing. I did get them to fade a bit at a track day but I probably boiled the brake fluid. Neither the EBC or the Hawks gave me any trouble at autocross events. Once the pads got warm, they both worked very well.

The EBC Greestuff pads have very similar characteristics as the HPS pads in terms of good cold bite and wear, but there is very little dusting from them. They are a bit cheaper than the Hawk pads. Performance Friction Z pads are good and should be available from Autozone.

Default What Pads?

I purchased six months ago from AutoZone PFCs Z rated. They work with heat(The hotter the better),do not dust and come with a lifetime guarantee. Now thats a deal.

no, it's just a high performance variant of the carbon metallic.

having the lifetime guarantee including wear from Autozone is very nice.
