Hooker Long Tube Headers...
The Hooker y-pipe will not properly clear the trans pan in an auto trans L98. After some cutting, pounding, a few choice words, and reweldind a new section of 3" pipe did it clear the trans pan and seal properly at the collectors. The flaw lies in how one of the corner sections of the pipe is bent too closely and at the wrong angle to clear the rear passanger side corner of the pan in an automatic trans. I have not hear a single manual trans guy have such issues with fitment. The best way to fix this is with the car up on a lift, and the pipe bolted to the collector. Then completely cut out the section that hits the pan, and weld in a section with the correct bend. Doing it with the pipe installed on the car as best as it will fit keeps the two front sections of the y-pipe properly positioned and spaced for you. If you try this with it out of the car, you probably will throw off the spacing, and cause even more aggravation for yourself. If you cannot do this yourself, a reputable muffler shop can to it for you. Just a heads up, I wish I would have asked about it before I bought mine and found out the hard way.

I'm heard quite the opposite for the automatic guys. Its a shame that Hooker doesn't design their configuration properly for the C4's with autos

I'll check into the EM's and the 'high quality' hedmans. Some more info on the header bolts... Stainless is a pretty wimpy metal, at least, the affordable grades of stainless are. Grade 8 is stronger than grade 5, which isn't really the issue, but it's also much more corrosive-resistant. Those bolts get heat cycled big time, so corrosion happens pretty quickly.
