Could be IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. They get carboned up. Remove & clean and replace, or just buy a new one. They are about $40. (there's threads here on proper setup procedure).

Hey! I have the same problem, it will sometimes keep reaving to 1200 at a stop or red light and if I just touch the gas pedal like you it will go back to normal. I first through it was also the IAC.

What do you mean the butterfly in the TB was getting hung up? was it really dirty? what did you do to fix it.

Take some TB Cleaner to the TB plates & bore; if that doesn't fix the idle issue, pull the IAC and clean it's pintel and bore under the TB. Then reset base idle, per directions on my site but ignore the TPS adjustment on a '90 or '91 L98 as the TPS is not adjustable in those years.

yes the butterflies were getting hung up, it wasnt dirty because i have a nos shot that goes through the t/b. so actully it was clean and dry. all did was spray some wd40 on in the tb and all was ok..

if yours is dirty then i would take it off and clean and lube it up..

I put about 15 000 maybe 20 000 km in 3 years since the last time it was cleaned, but I don't know how clean it was after they cleaned it, maybe they just clean it with a rag or something (engine was rebuilt 3 years ago)

I'll look at it this weekend, but if it is in fact dirty and needs to cleaned out, can I just leave the TB on the car and just clean it out with some brake cleaner and a tooth brush?
If its not dirty, I'll just put some WD40 on the butterfly

If I have to clean it should I really consider taking it out and cleaning the IAC pindles? (keep in mind I don't even know what the pindles are and have never cleaned the TB before on my own)
I know there is a procedure on the tech Tip section, but if you take it all apart to clean, do you have to unscrew the two screws that holds the TPS? and then readjust it once re-installed or do you just need to re-adjust the IAC screw?

Thanks
