Does anyone else have a problem frying #5 plug boot (MSD Superconductors) on Hooker Supercomps and causing a misfire? I've cooked two already. The headers are ceramic coated and wrapped, and I have the fiberglass sleeves over the plug boots. It's impossible to get the 'glass boot all they way over that particular boot with the header being wrapped.
Any ideas? I thought I read that some of you have had issues with the MSD wires also? Thanks!
Oh yeah, #5 is not fun. When I was running rich and backfiring through the headers, it created a bunch of heat and I roasted that wire twice. I have the fiberglass around #s 1, 3, 5, and 6. Seems to be holding up ok now. I am using the MSD 8.5s as well. I am on my second set! My supercomps are coated too. Let us know what you come up with.
Does your plug wire set use a 90 degree boot or a straight boot for #5?
I have an old set of MSD wires that had all 90 degree boots and I've never had a problem. The newer MSD wires have straight boots on the #7 wire, which is a problem with headers.
All are 90's except the one for #6. I may try to get a 45* in there with the 'glass boot. I just found that Accell has an "Exptreme 9000" wire that's supposed to be good to 1000*f without any add'l protection. I may try to use a pice of convoluted ceramic tubing, if I can fit it.
Keep 'em coming!
