Default Park brake handle

Well, my parking brake won't stay engaged. I pull up on it and it engages the brake fine, and it will stop the car from rolling, but once you let go of the handle, it springs back down, releasing the brake. If I pull it just right sometimes I can get it to stay but once I bump the car, it diesngages again. Anything I can adjust. I am thinking of replacing the whole darned handle assembly since it's only $88 from Corvette Central. Any ideas here guys, do I just need to replace the handle? How hard is it to change? Does the seat have to come out? Will Batman ever escape?

These things have a "parking brake"? Just kidding, but I have never found a use for mine!

No Offense

Well, it's a manual tranny, and I've seen a tranny pop out of gear sitting on a hill, plus I have to shut my car off when I pull into my driveway so I can leave it in gear so I can get out an open the garage door the car won't roll down the hill.

Since you don't have a use for yours, why don't you send it to me.

Sounds like you need a parking brake assembly.

Yeah, I figured so. Any instructions out there to change it? My manual doesn't have any instructions.

The ratchet may have become gummed up and not engaging. Might just need a little cleaning. You'll need to remove the DS seat to get to it. There should be two or three (been awhile since I pulled my seats) to remove the cover.

2 bolts holding the cover down. Remove seat to get at it. When I installed a new one, I just observed how the old one came out and put the new one in. I removed the screw that was there after installation and cranked it up a few times and went on my merry way.

So, do you have to release the tension of the auto cable adjuster?

Me neither. I attached cable first then kinda manhandled it over to install bolts. Whole job didn't take very long either.

just go buy one. it's such a nice treat. i replaced mine. like 2 or 3 bolts. torx head. take the drivers seat cushion out and 4 bolts that hold the seat in. then take the brake cover off and the torx bolts. slide the cable out then do the reverse with the new assembly. it works, sooooooo much better. the hardest part is getting the cable in the assembly while tryin to line up the bolts for reassembly. hope it helps. you'll love it.
