calling all diff drain plug veterans-- help please
Ok, I'm give up. I need help from those who have installed the Corvette Clinic differential drain plug kit. Sorry to be so stupid, but I don't want to screw up the differential as I can't afford a new one.
First, did you have to drop your cat-back system? I have the factory original system, and it is right on top of where I need to drill, or very close to it!
Second, the instructions are confusing to me on one point. I get the center punching the hole location. I get the starting the drill bit in straight for 1/8 th inch to start. What I don't get is the directions for angling the drill bit after it starts in after that first 1/8th inch.
The directions say to angle the bit about 15 degrees toward the center of the Y pipe. Well, after center punching the location of the hole according to their template, the hole is exactly centered in-between the two Y pipe pipes. Does it mean to angle the drill so it is drilling up and toward the back of the car? It would appear that you want to angle the electric drill itself toward the passenger side so the drill is going up and toward the driver side rear quarter panel if the idea is to miss the bottom differential bolt. I know this sounds confusing, but I really need some advice here. For those who have walked this road before, what did you do? Thanks much in advance for any advice offered.

Someone posted some good info on this a while back. I thought I had saved it but cannot find it. Hopefully they'll see this and respond. How are things in Marion BTW? I know your town well!
First of all, I'd make sure you can remove the drain plug with the exhaust attached. Installing the drain plug kit, I'd probably drop at least the rear part of the exhaust so you can have good access to the diff. Last, e-mail Chris at corvette clinic and he'll set you straight. Some day I'm going to do this mod.

I'm gonna cheat, Tom. I'm going do the D44 before it goes in and with the cover off!
Thanks guys. I guess I'll e-mail Chris and see what he has to say. I guess I'm getting old here! I had hoped to do this today based on feedback from the group, but guess it will have to wait a bit until Corvette Clinic is open. I know there wouldn't be anyone there today, so I didn't bother calling or e-mailing. Just trying to push it through today while I had the time free. My son returns from Iraq and Germany this Wednesday, so we will be tied up with his reunion and spending time with him for awhile and working on his car. Thanks for the replies.
