im fixing to get some headers for my lt-1. The engine has a hotcam, 1.6's, stage 1 gtp heads, 3000 yank stall, and 3:73's. I have two choices of headers from the guy building it. He has some stainless steel stepped headers that appear to be small at the primary but flare out to 1 3/4. Then he has some stainless steel midlength that appear to be 1 3/4 all the way out. Which would be the better choice?
I have heard that the stepped headers build more torque....but with a stall and gears...who cares?

I just checked on the measurements on the headers.
The stepped headers are 1 5/8" stepping to a 1 3/4" primary. The other ones are 1 3/4".
Anyone have any more input?

With those mods, you're flowing enough air that you need the full 1-3/4" primaries all the way out. I would estimate that you're making around 410 fwhp, which is enough to need that size. If I had my choice, I'd actually go for a stepped header going from 1-3/4" to 1-7/8", with a choke at the collector, but you can't get those for the C4 unless they're custom made. The power difference between the 1.75-1.875 stepped compared to the full 1-3/4" is negligible for what you're doing, considering the cost of custom headers.

Just get a set of Exotic Muscle 1.75" long tubes. They fit like a glove, coated, extremely well made, and are easy to install. Plus you won't get raped for custom headers. From what you have told us of your combo going with a stepped tube design is going to offer any significant gains that are going to be worth the cost of a set of custom stepped tube headers.
