Default Shocks for 88

Everything I have seen indicates that the shocks on an 88 are different from other years. Is this right? I bought the car with 72K on it and now have 131K and haven't changed the shocks. It is one of my winter projects and don't see the reason for 'special' shocks.

The 88 front shocks are the same. This was the first year for the new susp. from the 84-87. They used a different travel on the 88's and changed it in 89. They stuck with the 89 setting up until of course the C5 came out.

So this means I need to find rear shocks for an 88 right?

I am so sorry, I have no idea were my head was when I typed that post. Jezzz.

OK let me try this again, but a little clearer.

The 88 used a different shock up front compared to all the other years. In 88 GM went to a new susp. setup. In 89-96 they changed the front shock travel compared to the 88. Thus making the 89-96 shock different. The mouting of a 88-96 is the same, again it's just the travel of the shock itself that is different between the years. So, this puts the FRONT shocks on a 88 as a loner. Now the 88 rear shocks can be replaced with 89-96 shocks, no difference. You will find that some places list the rear 88 seperate as well, but this is to avoid just what you have run into. People getting confused.

This is how I found all this out. I to was confused as to if all the susp. parts are the same on 88-96 cars, then why is the 88 always listed seperate from the rest for the front shocks. The above is what I uncovered.
