So my engine about three weeks ago began developing a bit of a clattering sound when the rpm is very low. (I am thinking connecting rod) However I am just going to let it limp on until I finish my new motor.
Now two days ago, it started doing this odd stall under load. When going into first/second/third... so on. When you shift you get into gear maintain speed, then if you try to hit it (a little or a ton). It seems to almost die but more slightly accelerate then it ramps quickly <1 second back to what the normal accelaration would be for that much throttle.
I replaced the fuel filter a while ago. What could this be?
Could it be engine related or is it fuel related?
Does this sound like plugs and wires...dying fuel pump?
My 91 auto is severely anemic at low rpm, high load until it kicks down (then it's fun). I hooked an OTC 4000E scan tool to it and found my timing is being retarded ~15* under those conditions. You might want to check one of the recent threads regarding knock sensors and their sensitivity to false counts. I did some work with KS in the 80's and I remember that spark knock rattles the engine at 5-8 kHz and the KS is "tuned" to that frequency. If you have some mechanical clattering in the engine, the KS could be picking that up as knock and retarding your timing. $0.02.
Thanks guys.
My main concern is that it is the fuel related..as long as it goes with the rest of the engine when it gets pulled, it should be resolved.
Thanks!
