Shifting question on 85 auto
Hi everyone. I love this site. Been reading it for about 2 years now. This is my first post. My problem is that my 85 automatic shifts up to soon, about 24 mph, and puts to much load on the engine causing it to really struggle. I read, here, once that GM came out with a new chip to correct this problem but I cannot find any more info on it. Does anyone know how I can correct this shifting problem or know anything about this chip? Thanks for the help.

The only trans related function performed by the ECM on an '85 is the TCC lock up. The TV cable should have little to do with shift points, but it would be a good idea to be sure it is adjusted properly. Shift points are controlled by the Governor in the trans. If this is a developing problem, there may be debris in one of the passages restricting fluid flow. If it has always been this way, you can purchase a governor kit from B&M and others, to alter the shift points.
