The axle code will be found in box 11 on the build sheet. These "Cxx" codes are probably for 92 and later. The code for my 87 coupe is a 5YX and the car has 3.07 gears.
You didn't say what year Vette you had, but if you have the CQR code on the tag, the RPO list should also show "GM3".

It could be a code used by the assembly line where the differentials are put together. Then that code is used by the Bowling Green Assmebly Plant to determine which housing goes into the car based on the RPO code . The build sheet shows some of the RPO codes but the individual boxes on the build sheet form have much different codes for the components that are installed on the car.
Okay, thanks! The thread title says the year...'91. This is just a rear axle assembly. The actual car is a pile in a Central Oregon wrecking yard. I got the axle to go under my '68 C-10 pickup! I think it was actually converted over to 4.10 gears, but wanted to know what it should have had to compare when I take the cover off. Yeah, you're right...the code is a blue, nylon tape-tag that has black silk-screened letters on it and is attached to the driver's side differential mount.
As a side-note...would anyone be able to answer my question in the ZR-1 forum titled, "Can Someone Please Take Some Measurements for Me?"
I would also appreciate a picture of the mounts for the differential. Not the brace to the transmission, but the two side-mounts off of the differential. I am curious to see how those two big aluminum blocks are mated to the body (the ones that bolt down to the top of the differential bushings). Most aftermarket conversions simple eliminate these extra mounts, but GM must have put them there for something.
