Hubs: Visible Grease = bad?
So, with the tranny rebuild, I'm fixing the broken speedo gear. Since I'm addressing THAT problem, I really oughta change the gear ratio (no sence getting in there twice), and if I'm doing the gears, I oughta swap in poly bushings...and while all the big parts are off getting the works, I oughta play with polishing the aluminum parts...
While disassembling the wheel assembly, I noticed greae escaping one of the hubs. There wasn't appreciable play in the hub before disassembly, but should I replace it 'while I'm in there'?
A hub swap is pretty trivial these days, but there's a high zoot motor in the picture, and I'd hate to have something fail nastily that could be prevented.
Oh, and here's the result of a little free time and a bench grinder:
with before and after here:
Curiously, it's the newer looking hub that's leaking.

Grease from the hub is usually a good sign that the bearing is headed south. It's in the early stages, so you probably won't hear any noise or feel any play just yet.
Looks like you have everything out, so you might just as well go ahead and replece em!
