New bests at track.... :) :)
Got down to Keystone raceway Friday night to race with Jim and Corky.
It was nice to race on a track that was prepped the right way.
DA was around 2500, with humidity climbing as the night carried on. '
Made 5 runs and 4 were faster than my previous bests.
With the fastest being 10.62@127.33 On a 1.46 60' time.
I am learning that these Hoosier slicks like alot of air pressure. The last few runs were up to 17psi, and it pulls better 60s like that.
I have several other runs in the 10.67-69 range on lesser 60' time.
So its coming around with the ETs lately.
Corky was right in the same range, on two of the passes we ran one another and the cars ran within hundredths of one another.
Pretty impressive to build two motors, and have them both run identical. There is more left in both of them. We just need to find the next "tweek" to get when in the 10.5 range consistantly in that weather. Then when the better air comes around, they should both perform very good.
Just kidding, great times!!
The fall weather should be interesting.
Just turned the key on his 555 CI motor we built. Sounds pretty damn mean!
313/324 adv 282/292@.050 cam with .725 lift. 1.7 RRs. I mean you just think about touching the gas on it, and it up to 4000 RPM. Sounds quite hairy.
We should be taking it to Keystone this Friday for some shakedown runs. Can't wait.
You know you have a pretty stout motor when you put it in gear from neutral to 1st and it squeeks the tires at idle.
It should be a handful, with LOTS of potential left in the heads, carb and intake setups. Guessing it will run right around our times with the iron heads and smaller carb. This winter we will put some aluminum heads on it and big azz carb for some low 10s to high 9s. All in a 3800+ pound car.

This is another Corkvette1 creation!!
BTW if you ever make it to http://cecilcountydragway.com let me know! as of 10 pm 9/5/04 we are sitting at 600 DA
Altitude 100 feet
Air Temperature 70 degrees F
Altimeter Setting 30.30 inches Hg
Dew Point 61 degrees F
Density Altitude 641 feet
Absolute Pressure 30.191 inches Hg
Relative Density 98.14 %
could be better like in mid to late october in the killer air!

Altitude feet
Air Temperature 45 degrees F
Altimeter Setting 30.80 inches Hg
Dew Point 32 degrees F
Density Altitude -1736 feet
Absolute Pressure 30.689 inches Hg
Relative Density 105.18 %
and Cecil is very sticky!

Little clarification. Actually his chevelle is in full trim, like our vettes. Its not tubbed, sporting stock suspension configuration, full interior, and weights ALOT.
The motor as is has WAY too small of heads, and carb on it. The motor used to be a 509 very mild compression 9:1 and an low 11s last season with its mild 570 lift cam. Not bad for what it was.
This year we went to increased compression and more cubes. The car runs very smooth and nice actually. Don't get me wrong, you can tell its all business. But with these heads and carb, it should run right around our vette times 10.6-10.9s. However with the addition of the heads and carb, it could become a real moster, ~850hp is pretty easy to get out of them. I would say now its going to be at about 670-720hp with UNGODLY torque with the small carb and heads. The torque will probably be too much and result in major traction problems, but we will see.
The reason we are doing it like this is so he can ease into the power potential and no sense in getting over zealous and it makes it more fun to see it come together in stages. He will be happy with a solid 10s car this season, and if the need for more speed is there next year, then we can move to heads and carb upgrades.

Heading to the strip again tomorrow.
I assume you are still running the MAF set-up or is this the MAP set-up
Jeff.
I am running the MAP system as of right now. Been back and forth several times, and comparing to Corky's MAF setup, for all intense purposes they are dead equal.
I am actually running the MAP system most recently with the MAF air tube, which gives me better 60' times more consistantly.
One reason why I stuck with the MAP system, is I want to try a 4 valve throttle body sometime soon, which will allow for that type of setup without worries about the air duct being incorporated with it.
There is really nothing wrong with either system, but the point I have always tried to make was that its not necessary to switch to MAP to run quick, and I think that Corky and I have proven that beyone any shadow of doubt.
IF you have MAP, stick with MAP, if you have MAF then stick with MAF. Can't get much easier and cheaper than that.
The last sentence was what always bothered me about people telling other to switch over. Why waste the money and time, when both systems are fully capable when tuned properly.

Looks like we are heading to Beaver Springs tomorrow if anyone is near there, come on over and run with us.
