I have a 95 LT1 and computer in my 91 coup. Can I use a hand-held programmer like a Hypertech III and will it be worth it? Serveral on sale on E-Bay for around $100. I had a shop tune my vet to pass my state's E-Check test and now my vet doesn't run as fast as it did before. A friend of mine told me he thought I had a Fastchip in my computer. Are these programable with a Hypertech? I don't have a laptop, which I guess would be the best way to go. Please send me any info you might have. Thanks. John

If you have a 95 PCM to control your engine it doesn't have a chip in the PCM. But rather it is flash memory which is programmed with a GM TECH2 by the dealer or using easily attained software by Tuner Cat, or LT1 edit. A HPP hand held won't give you much as far as performance enhancements, other that correcting for tire size and gear ratio changes or raising the rev limiter up. Unless your shop had one of the forementioned software tools he could not have done any changes to the PCM programming. Also there are no external adjustments that can be done to change timing on these cars.
It is possible that you have a early LT1 ECM controller that were used in the 92/93 model years. These ECMs did have a removable prom and in that case you could have a custom chip in it by someone else.
So....you are saying I need a laptop to program the flash memory, right? Thanks for the info. Will not bother with Hypertech unit and get Tunercat software and borrow a laptop. Thanks. John
