If you have an '88ish Corvette... do you have a 3" piece of rubber tubing that connects the rear brake line nearest the driver's side rear jacking point? Specifically, this is the line that feeds directly to the left rear wheel. Honestly, my car has this 3" piece of tubing and I think somebody rigged it in a prior lifetime. I would think that the line is supposed to be solid all the way to the soft line of the caliper, no? Check under your car for me, will ya? If it's not factory GM stuff, I'm installing an entire new line!
I just asked a buddy of mine to check his '87 Callaway. It appears as though it is a stock GM piece. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to see if they have this little piece of hose with the little clips. This is DEFINITELY the weakest leak in any early C4 braking system. Check yours... you'll be surprised!
Don't know if my '89 is similar, but all my brake lines are metal. The emergency brake cable however has a piece of rubber tubing over in in that area of the car. Hope this helps.
Sounds like this is a stock piece, but why would GM design a 3" rubber hose in the middle of a metal brake line???
Are there any replacement lines available that do not have the rubber hose splice?
