Default Question about oil temp.

My oil temp ususally runs about 230-240 but my coolant temp only reads about 125-150. (1984 corvette)This doesn't seem right to have such a difference. I figure my coolant temp sensor could be bad but should the oil temp be that high? Anybody have any idea how to make it run cooler?
Also, another problem, When the car is hot and I shut it off, I have to wait about 5 minutes before it will restart. It will crank but won't start. After a few minutes, it will fire right up. There have been a couple of times it has died on me(usually after sitting and idling for a few minutes like in line at a fast food window) and I have to wait a few minutes before it will restart. Any ideas? There's almost nothing worse than having your corvette die in the street and have to wait for it to restart. :o

I would think you have a temp sensor problem... Considering the age of your car, I would replace both with new. Also, check the circuit, there might be a short that is not helping things.

hot start problem... hm... when was the last major tune up? I know those throttle bodies can get really queer when they are old.

change the fuel filter... see where that takes you. If the car is not driven frequently, then it will collect stuff in the filter.

If it's true you have the coolest running 'Vette in history. Sounds like the water temp sensor, at least, is bad.

Bad coolant sensor, definitely.

Those oil temps are not a problem, however they are normal for C4s. You probably still need to clean the space between condensor and radiator to get those down a little.

Usually, hot start problems are coming from bad injectors leaking into the cylinder.

The oil temps are acceptable, maybe a little on the high side. The water temp CANNOT be correct. The gauge sending unit is in the left side cylinder head, between the #1 and #3 spark plugs. Check it. Have you done any diagnostics on the no-start condition? Check for spark and fuel. I have a thought or two on the subject, but there is no point in testing components that can't be contributing to the problem.

Suggestion:
remove temp sensor, plug hole with anything handy.
using patch wires, put lower part of sensor in boiling
water. turn 'vette to run, observe result.

Just an observation. My 88 runs a bout a 20 degree difference between oil and water Temp, oil being the higher!

Cruising coolant is 182 to 185 and oil is 195 to 205. In the hills or under high rev conditions through twisteies, oil will get to 210 to 215. Coolant stays the same
