What's the sensor called that is located on a tube that runs from the pass side exhaust manifold (I think!), up over the valve cover, then down to the "intake manifold" (do TPI cars *have* intake manifolds??? ). I kinda destroyed mine!
I'm not throwing any codes, and, after changing an O2 sensor, I still have a wonky idle when the engine warms up.
I believe that would be the egr temp switch. I removed my egr system and have thrown no codes or caused me any problems so it's probably not a panic situation
Think about it for a second. How could something THAT far from the EGR, sense the EGR position? *I* don't know what it is. I don't have one on my car and consequently, MY Helms doesn't show it. What does YOUR manual call it? In any case, I would rig it up to look normal, wire connected and all, for the visual portion of your California smog test.
That is indeed the EGR Temp sensor; it should be available through a parts store like Auto Zone.
You will likely need to splice into the Grn wire running from the sensor, as the connector (at least on my '88) is located behind and the intake base to the left of the dist.
