Default Pulleys - How much gain?

I was wanting to put a underdrive pulley kit on my car(91), but was wondering how much gain would I get from this or is it even worth the hassle? Also wondering where to get a good set of pulleys? TIA

I didn't measure any hp gain though the engine seems to spin up a little quicker, especially in 1st gear.

March (Summit Racing) makes a Power & Amp pulley set that includes an under drive crank and an over drive alt pulley. Though I have the powder coated steel pulleys, I think the coated Al units might give a little better results.

When you install these pulleys it's a good opportunity to also discard the frisbee from your water pump pulley.

I have heard an underdrive pulley set is good for around a .10 in the 1/4. When I did the march power and amp set I was suprised at the gain I felt, I wasn't expecting much at all. It seems to pull much harder thru the rpm range

i just installed the mach 2 pully set and i guess i noticed a little better pull at around 55 or 60 but not a bit of difference at low speeds and no difference in voltage of anything like that , all in all for the money i guess it was a good mod , it looks better anyways , plus it was easy to do !...putting royal purple in it was a better feel though !..good luck

Does anyone know if there is a difference on the LT4 engine? I wasn't considering it, but good info none the less.

Has anyone tried the 3 piece system with the crank, alt, and water pump pulleys? Was wondering if it affected the cooling? Thanks, Dave

I have the march 3 piece set. It seems to make the coolant temp rise a bit quicker when sitting in traffic at idle, but it doesnt get it hotter than normal before it levels off and goes back down quickly as soon as you start moving again so it doesnt bother me.

There was a previous thread where the member was concerned about water temp running higher than normal when in traffic. This sounds about right with the water flow slowed by the pulleys. The price is around $90 for the two pulley set from LPE http://www.lingenfelter.com/lingenfe...=18&pf%5Fid=53

I installed a set on all the cars I have owned and have definately noticed a low end difference. The largest diff was a 2.59 car that couldn't squeal tires before to being able to do burnouts after. I have used the 3 pulley sets and have never had an overheat problem. Bang for buck I say they are a good deal. Headers rank right up there too.
