A new set of Crane golds are right at $300
Comp pro mag $270 range
I have heard decent things about harland sharp but have never used them and don't know if they have S/A rockers but they are a good bit cheaper. I have also got a couple of great deals in the parts section of the forum in the past.
How come I never see anyone using the crane golds?? They look like they would be good but I never hear anyone say they have used them??
I have them on my 92 LT1 and they work just fine. Just remember to upgrade your springs when going to 1.6 RRs. You might have spring binding. It's common on 92s.

The LT4 springs are made to use with 1.6 RR. They are very reasonable compared to aftermarket springs. I think I paid about $36 for a set, new. They work with the LT1 retainers or you can get the LT4 ones. Don't scrimp on the rockers and don't let anyone talk you into Proforms, they are complete junk.

A friend of mine has a latemodel dirt track car with a hellacious 377 sbc in it. He tried to use the crane gold series, but the rocker arm itself would not clear the valvespring. The motor has a really BIG rollershaft in it, and he went and put some Comp pro mags and they clear the springs just fine. I doubt that anyone would want to run a cam that big on the street but just thought that I would share some info. I am planning on buying some Comp pro mags myself for my 91.

Some here on the forum have had to clearance aluminum rockers for spring clearance with big cams. The Pro Mags, although stainless steel, because of their design are even lighter than most aluminum ones. They are one of those parts that you can just hold in your hand and appreciate the quality of.

If I had to guess, I would think they are second in popularity only to the Pro Mags. I have a friend who has had them on a '92 for some time with no problems. I would never be afraid to install Crane components on my car.
I've been running the GMPP 1.6 RR for over 50K miles on my daily driver LT1 (the GMPP RR are made by Crane, almost exactly the same as the Crane Golds). They are fine, esp with a stock cam.
I agree about upgrading your springs, the LT4 springs are great with the stock cam.
For a street engine running modest spring diameter and pressures, the Crane golds are fine.
But why you step up to big springs, like 1.625s, and/or high pressure to accomodate radical cams, the Cranes have a problem.
First, often the under side of the rockers won't clear the larger diameter springs and need to be ground for the necessary clearance. This isn't really a biggie, but there it is anyway.
Second, the Golds are aluminum and are not as rigid as Pro Magnums so they flex more and this effect lift and duration on the running engine. You'd want the most rigid parts in your valve train; those that don't flex. That's why we move to .080 wall one-piece seamless, blah, blah, blah pushrods, 7/16ths studs or a shaft rocker setup, etc.
Third, the Golds are a pretty old design and I don't believe they have the latest technology incorporated in their design.
