Default Transgo shift kit question

I am interested in installing a transgo shift kit on my 96 auto with 85,000 miles. I heard that these can help improve the life of the transmission by making it more efficient and stronger. Is this true? I would plan on installing the most similar to stock shift profile because the car is a daily driver. However I would like to be able to manually shift it on the rare occassion when I get spirited. What are your opinions on doing this to an older transmission?

I plan on the same thing in my 90 with 80,000. I myself do not think a 96 with 85,000 is too old at all. I really use mine pretty hard and have not had any indication of trouble for the last year. I put in a B&M Megashifter and really like it too.

Ok, I origionally thought the harder shift would cause more strain on the transmission. So with the street/ strip setup where you can manually shift how firm should I go to help improve both performance and life, yet still be able to drive without a neck brace.

If anyone could recomend a specific unit and price estimate, I would appreciate it.

I have the same trans as you do in my 96 Impala. I installed a TransGo shift kit 50K miles ago, along with a 2400 stall speed TC. The TransGo shift kit has a few options to set the firmness. The hole size I drilled in the steel plate sets overall firmness, and I can adjust the 1/2 shift firmness by changing out washers under the accumulator (in the pan).

TC stall speed, vehicle weight and desired firmness can be compensated for by changing the washers under the accumulator. There's three of 'em, I'm running 2 washers with my set up.
