I had what appeared to be and the code showed MAF problems. I replaced both relays, power and burn off(88 vette) and still had problems

Turned out to be the IAC moter which rarely shows up as a code and is rarely discussed in GM/Helms

Replaced it and everything is fine

My only guess is a bad burnoff module, unless you can track down a short in the MAF wiring.

If I remember correctly, someone posted that for the 85 one of the relays is behind the dash.

Try GMPARTSDIRECT.COM

BURN off mod is behind the bread box on pass side. Before you go to the trouble of removing it, check it first.

Remove the front rubber hose from the MAF sensor so you can look in it, ignition on, ground the ALDL terminal E, shut the ignition off, quickly observe the hot wire in the MAF sensor, it should glow red. Easier if you have a helper, as you have to do this quickly or you'll miss the wire heating up.

The module was also used in F body GM vehicles with the port injection on the 305s. hope this helps.

I also sudenly developed a code34 in my 85.
I read if you clear the code34 and run the car without the maf connected and you get a code 33 it is a bad maf.
if you still get a code34 it is wiring or processor.
I have yet to try it but it may help.
