I just got a set of heads and an intake off ebay for a smokin price. I have and 95 LT1 6spd. I got these so I could do a port and polish job with port matched intake. They came off a camaro that was bone stock. Saturday I was looking at the heads and day dreaming about what it will be like when I get them back from the machine shop when I noticed there is not alot of material that the machine shop can remove. The intake and exhaust valves are very close to one another. I'm wondering can a stock head be ported to flow big #'s and can I increase the valve size? Because to my untrained eye it looks like there is no room for improvement. Your thought please. Did I buy the wrong stuff?

The key to porting & working stock heads is mostly work done in the bowl area and at the valve seats, with maybe a little unshrouding near the intake valve. In fact the idea is to inprove flow velocity and swirl while keeping port volume nearly constant with the stock size.
Your machinest will (should) know what size valves can be installed and when up-sizing will require new seats.
